Victoria Death Care Event: The Doing Death Different Community Marketplace
Looking for end-of-life resources, grief support, or death care options in Victoria? On Sunday, October 4, from 1–4pm at the Royal Canadian Legion (411 Gorge Rd East), we’re gathering again for the 3rd Annual Doing Death Different Community Marketplace—a space to explore death, dying, and grief in creative, honest, and even playful ways.
Discover Doing Death Different: Victoria’s death positive community information event
This community event brings together local death doulas, grief coaches, funeral directors, advance care planners, and others offering holistic alternatives to traditional death care.
Three years ago, a handful of us set up a table at a local trade show to see if anyone might be interested in “death positive” offerings. We brought conversation-starting card decks, advance care planning resources, grief support including a children’s book explaining MAiD, and even homemade Empathy Cards. The event itself wasn’t a roaring success, but the spark it lit has grown into something much more powerful: our own marketplace, built by and for the community.

Each year, the energy has grown bigger, more connected, and vibrant. We call it Doing Death Different for a reason. It’s not about being polite or grammatically correct. It’s about flipping the script on how we talk about death and grief, and creating spaces where honesty, curiosity, and courage are welcome.
This year, you’ll find local death doulas, advance care planning tools, grief coaching, resources for caregivers, information on MAiD, environmental death care, psychedelic supports for end-of-life anxiety, and more. Whether you work in end-of-life care or are simply death-curious, you’ll discover practical resources and heartfelt community. Click here for a list of all exhibitors.
Our vision is simple: to increase awareness of holistic, alternative death care and ensure everyone in Greater Victoria has access to meaningful end-of-life support.
Come join us—let’s do death different(ly), together.
